This was such a great book. The hardship veterans go through when they come home. Especially those with handicaps. The diaries she read from her great grandmother were amazing. The only thing I didn't like the ending. Left you up in the air

I could not put this book down for long. Was glued to it. I jave family who served in both ww1 & 2. My grandfather was gassed.

I found the story fascinating.Very sad learning about wars and how dreadful they all are. Enjoyed the contrast between current time vs WW 1. I also like reading the English books to learn their lingo which is different from the US.

I had a little trouble getting into it because of the British English, but soon got past that and into the story itself. I liked that the story brings to our realization the fact that soldiers have always come home disabled in both body and mind; that it isn’t something new in our day. The weaving together of the story is excellent.

I was hesitant at first to download this book but I am so glad I did! The diary format carried the stories wonderfully well. I will recommend this book to my friends.

I don't know alot about World War 1 and was able to learn some things in this book. I also learned some things about Afghanistan all while reading a great book

For me it was not that gripping and sentimental as The Lost Soldiers. I just couldn't get engaged with the main characters plight of alcohol and substance issues as she went through such a traumatic reentry into civilian life. I chose the book because Liz Trenow wrote such a tender captivating love story in the Lost Soldiers, which I found heart warming.

I didn’t realize until I started reading the book that it was set in England. The different spellings and terminology made it a little difficult to read. The story line was good and brought needed attention to those suffering with PTSD.
